Replaced all four rotors and pads today ( yes, that’s technically 8 pads).

Kinja'd!!!

The fronts were actually still pretty good but since those rotors have 120k kms on them, thought I’d replace them and the pads. Because the old ones were original, they didn’t have never seize on the hub. This added like half hour a side....what with the banging and the puller-ing. Jeep rust never sleeps.

Kinja'd!!!

All buttoned up...

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve replaced the rear rotors, or at least had them off, so they had never seize on their hubs and came off like butter.

Wranglers eat rear pads. You usually replace 2 sets  to every front set. It had to do with the VSC always dragging a side, especially because the wheelbase is short, even on a unlimited, and the rear end is light. Plus the brakes are pretty undersized for a galoot like this.

Kinja'd!!!

Purfect timing...haha.

Another quirk of the Wrangler, at least mine, is that the battery terminals corrode like all hell. I dunno if acid vapours accumulate because of some odd way the hood is designed, but I’ve got to clean them twice a year otherwise I get snotcicle buildup.

A little baking soda and a plastic wire brush will do the trick...

Kinja'd!!!

Since I had the silicone dielectric grease out to do the caliber slider pins, I brushed some on the terminals with a flux brush....maybe that will help. Time will tell.

That was my Saturday. Gonna have a beer and make quesadillas...I’m a sore old man now. Since I was a counter guy at the local parts place, I still get jobber prices from the guys I used to work with. So I probably saved $800 by doing it myself. Plus, why pay someone to have all the fun?

I have to get my wife’s Explorer brakes done soon. Since it has four wheel discs, I at least don’t have to mess with drums.  I hate drum brakes.

Coated rotors are awesome! And wow that battery is yucky! I’ve never seen one that bad

I regret to inform you that the rear discs have a drum brake in the rotor hub for  parking brake.  Mind you they don’t wear too much...unless you’re pulling some sweet Rockferds

It makes so much sense to add a light coat on the hub of the rotor. I still neverseized the flange hub tho.

That battery shot was after I applied the baking soda slurry...but yeah, it was really bad.

I realized today my front brake lines need replaced. And I’m missing the flex plate dust plate/ inspection cover.

Sigh. Not ready.

That dialectric grease works great. Sometimes I start to think that i t’s almost a shame to use it on battery terminals , because baking soda is also very good at its job, and so satisfying to watch.

Yeah, I know. But if the drums need servicing, my wife works next to a chain auto service center. I’ll have them do the drum/parking brakes.
